Association Montessori Internationale
We Connect Montessori to the World
Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) is the world leading authority on Montessori education and research. A global NGO, AMI brings Montessori education to children, adolescents, adults, educators and governments across the world. Founded by the pioneering scientist and educator, Maria Montessori, AMI applies Montessori principles across its global education and humanitarian work. AMI’s vision is to support the natural development of human beings throughout their lives, enabling them to contribute positively to society, leading to a more peaceful world through education.
Maria Montessori
AMI was founded by Maria Montessori in 1929 in order to continue her work and ensure the Montessori approach remained relevant for future generations. Montessori was one of the first Italian women to be awarded a medical degree. Her pedagogical techniques were developed while working with children in the slums of Rome, where she uncovered a unique understanding of the development of the whole human being, and saw how her techniques improved educational outcomes for all children. Today, neuroscientific research supports her theories and discoveries, making AMI a genuine world leader in Montessori principles and practice. Maria Montessori believed in the power of education for social reform, and in a world where education could bring about peace. AMI continues that work, to further explore the potential of the education, championing the human rights of the child and bringing Montessori education to communities globally.
Montessori Education
The Montessori approach puts the child at the centre. It is hands on, collaborative and joyful. Montessori works in every setting for the success of each child by supporting their innate desire to learn while rigorously developing the academic, moral, social and emotional skills which create a fully capable individual. Montessori principles are successfully applied from birth to 18, and through to adulthood, in more than 140 countries, across all socio-economic environments.
